Donated by a prominent local developer and long-time friend of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the Mack Dick Group Pavilion provides a gathering place for park goers and a complement to the adjacent open air amphitheater. The 3,300 sf facility includes a spacious dining hall with double-sided fireplace, full commercial kitchen, restrooms, and large porches. The goal of the project was to design a building that defers to the site, rather than competing with it. The building does not call attention to itself, but allows the canyon to be the spectacle. This is accomplished primarily by using the simple shapes of agrarian buildings, common forms found across the area, as the principal inspiration for the massing of the new building.
