C&L Project Manager Norma Yancey presented her latest extracurricular project, three custom stringed instruments, to a rapt audience at
The instruments were designed and fabricated in collaboration with local musician Travis Weller, who scored an original composition performed by local percussion trio line upon line and the vocal ensemble Convergence later in the program. Travis approached Norma with the intent to build the instruments around salvaged wood organ pipes that he had recovered from the estate of a local organ repairman. Norma drew influence for the design from pre-war Soviet constructivist drawings and rendered each of the instruments in 3d prior to fabricating them in her shop. Travis has already booked several concerts with the instruments and plans to travel with them nationally and internationally.
