Previously a private event’s space for the Jeffrey’s Restaurant, the Josephine House has been renovated to become an elegant lunch destination for the Clarksville Neighborhood. Part of a design/build collaboration, Clayton & Little (along with Burnish & Plumb Construction) has brought new life to the quaint 900 SF Josephine House. New equipment revived the compact kitchen, a book matched marble bar and a marble buffet counter enlivens the Dining Room space. Original shiplap substrate was re-purposed for the interior finish and a reclaimed shiplap ceiling completes the rustically elegant feel of the Josephine House interior.
Outside, the landscaping was revamped with board formed retaining walls, grass seating terraces and native plantings which soften the edges of the site. A new courtyard and wood patio allow diners to enjoy their meal under the canopy of a live oak, intermingled with string lighting and complemented by the sensory qualities of a wood burning cooking pit. Working closely with the Owner and Interior Designer, Clayton & Little’s design goal of dynamic but simple interior and exterior spaces was achieved with a compact layout, basic detailing and a select material palate.
