This renovation and addition project in Travis Heights added more space with a modern edge to a young family’s home. The original 1938 one story, two-bedroom house grew to incorporate an enlarged master bedroom and bathroom on the first floor and a new 1,037-square-foot second story that includes two bedrooms, a playroom, a utility room and a bathroom. Clayton&Little worked closely with the owners to ensure that their new house stayed true to the vision of the neighborhood and that the overall scale and volume did not overwhelm. One area that truly combined old and new was the Kitchen and Dining. With initial plans to leave these untouched, it was decided to strip the drywall, exposing shiplap, which gave both spaces a warm feel. Responding to the entire family’s wish list, the playroom and upstairs porch have a treehouse vibe and the garage was replaced with a basketball court, giving the backyard a spacious feel.
